Peace
Peace is our Victory!
IN BRIEF
-
- Peace requires justice, disarmament, and international cooperation.
- Militarisation diverts resources from social needs and fuels instability.
- Trumpism and NATO expansion are accelerating global arms spending.
- Palestine and Ukraine demand ceasefire, negotiation, and international law.
- A truly independent and peaceful Europe must reject militarisation.
Peace is more than the absence of war — it is the active pursuit of justice.
PEACE MEANS JUSTICE
It is tied to our survival on a planet threatened by ecological collapse and the rise of far-right authoritarianism.
From the outset, we must recognise that capitalism and war are deeply interconnected. As Jean Jaurès said, “Capitalism carries war within it as the cloud carries the thunderstorm.” The system pits workers against one another, forcing them to fight and die for corporate profit.
As a party of peace and of the working class, our vision of collective security must be inclusive — built with potential adversaries, not against them.
The logic of military blocs has failed. Instead of an arms race that consumes public funds and damages the planet at every stage — from production to training to warfare — we need a renewed commitment to cooperation and disarmament.
We call for a “Helsinki 2.0” — reviving the spirit of non-alignment to build a global order based on neutrality, de-escalation, and cooperation.
THIS REQUIRES:
- A firm anti-nuclear position
- Opposition to rearmament
- Rejection of a militarised European superpower
We recognise that many people feel insecurity. But real security must be common security — in the interests of all, not one country at the expense of another. To move towards peace, we support disarmament processes in which reduced armed forces remain strictly defensive.
The struggle against militarisation is also a struggle to defend working-class rights and to build a different kind of society.
The billions invested in defence industrialisation destabilise our societies and divert resources from healthcare, education, and social services.

The Global Threat of Trumpism and Complicit Allies
The resurgence of Trumpism in the United States represents a serious global threat. It strengthens authoritarian and imperialist tendencies worldwide.
Its attacks on international law, women’s rights, migrants, and academic freedom serve one purpose: prioritising corporate power.
The demand that NATO members spend five percent of GDP on weapons is not about defence. It is an attack on social welfare, forcing countries to sacrifice public services for the military-industrial complex.
Tragically, the EU and its Member States have aligned themselves with this agenda, combining their own militaristic ambitions with Washington’s policies.
Instead, we need a genuinely independent EU that prioritises dialogue, negotiation, and justice internationally.
Palestine: A Litmus Test for Global Justice
The situation in Palestine is a defining moral and political crisis. We must state clearly: what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank constitutes genocide, ethnic cleansing, and recolonisation. Western governments must act.
WE DEMAND:
- An end to arms trade and military cooperation with Israel
- Protection for humanitarian aid and journalists
- Prosecution of war crimes
- Respect for UN resolutions
This requires a permanent ceasefire, an end to occupation and blockade, an end to apartheid policies, and recognition of the State of Palestine and its sovereignty.
A viable two-state solution, equal rights in both states, and a nuclear-free Middle East must be part of this vision.
The repression and criminalisation of those who show solidarity with Palestine must end.
Ukraine: A Path Away from the Abyss
The EU’s approach to Ukraine, focused primarily on military solutions, has deepened the conflict and risks prolonging war.
It has marginalised Europe and allowed discussions dominated by the US and Russia, often excluding Ukrainians themselves.
A serious analysis must recognise Russian aggression while also acknowledging NATO’s long-term expansion and its destabilising effects.
Security concerns must never become justification for permanent war.
THE PATH TO PEACE LIES IN:
- An immediate ceasefire
- Negotiations
- Support for conscientious objectors from all sides
- Redirecting war funds to reconstruction
- Cancelling Ukraine’s debt
A long-term solution could involve a neutral Ukraine within the EU but outside NATO — prioritising regional stability over great-power rivalry.
Building a Future of Solidarity
We must strengthen international solidarity and provide a clear anti-imperialist analysis of global shifts. Globalisation has created new capitalist centres and intensified interstate rivalry in a multipolar world.
Solidarity means addressing both old and new forms of dependency and exploitation. We stand with the peoples of non-Western and non-Northern countries — not their elites. We must also recognise the imperial character of many EU policies and support the closure of foreign military bases on European soil.
A genuinely independent EU must reject neoliberal integration and play a peaceful global role.
ON THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE HELSINKI AGREEMENT, WE PROPOSE CONCRETE STEPS:
- Regional disarmament initiatives
- A Nordic nuclear-free zone
- Demilitarisation of the Arctic and Baltic Sea
- Support for independent peace research
The choice is ours: continue down the path of ecological and social destruction driven by endless war — or choose collective security, justice, and peace. The resources for a better world exist.
We must have the courage to defund the war machine and invest in our shared future.
