Walter Baier, an economist in Vienna, was elected as President of the European Left (EL) in December 2022. Walter was National Chairman of the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) from 1994 to 2006. He was an editor of the Austrian weekly Volksstimme. From 2007 – 2022 he has been a Coordinator of transform! europe, the Network of 36 organizations from 22 European countries, which is also recognized political foundation of the Party of the European Left.

José Luis Centella Gómez was born on 31 July 1958 in Cordoba, a teacher by profession, involved between 1978 and 1987 in pedagogical renewal movements, joined the PCE in 1975, still in hiding, has held leadership positions in the PCE, in Izquierda Unida and in the PIE, in the institutional sphere he has been a Councillor, He is currently President of the PCE, Vice-President of the PIE and member of the Coordination of the European Forum of Green, Progressive and European Left Forces and is responsible for the area of Geopolitics of the Patrice Lumumba International Peace and Solidarity Association.

He has written several books and articles on the Cuban Revolution, Socialism in the 21st century, the reality of the People’s Republic of China today and geopolitics.

She studied sociology and science of religions. Her political focus is on peace, social, human rights and transport policy.
She was a city councillor and district councillor in Tuebingen, is active as general secretary of the Left Party in Baden-Württemberg and is the author of numerous peace policy publications.
