Statement on the assault to the Mexican Embassy in Quito
El Partido de la Izquierda Europea condena el ataque a la Embajada mexicana en Quito y el secuestro de Jorge Glas
La noche pasada un grupo de militares y policías denominados “El bloque de Seguridad”, ingresaron por la fuerza a la embajada de México en Ecuador ubicada en su capital, Quito.
El objetivo principal del asalto fue detener al ex vicepresidente Jorge Glas Espinel, hecho que se produce tras que México comunicase públicamente su decisión de otorgar el asilo diplomático a Jorge Glas.
Ecuador vuelve a ser noticia por unos hechos que están dando la vuelta al mundo y que son una muestra más del autoritarismo del gobierno de Noboa.
La invasión de la embajada mexicana en Quito para detener a Jorge Glas también vulnera los DDHH y las convenciones latinoamericanas sobre asilo, poniendo en peligro la integridad física tanto de Jorge Glas como del personal de la embajada mexicana. Después dela expulsion de la embajadora mexicana, el funcionario diplomatico a cargo, Roberto Canseco, fue agredido cuando intentaba parar la detención.
Este grave hecho implica romper la soberanía de un país y vulnerar el derecho internacional. Especialmente lo establecido en el art. 29 del la Convención de Viena sobre misiones diplomáticas.
Este hecho sienta un precedente muy peligroso, de violencia y abuso de poder. Un hecho vergonzoso del presidente Noboa que no representa al pueblo ecuatoriano.
El Partido de la Izquierda Europea manifesta su solidaridad con México ante un hecho tan grave de violación de su soberanía y de violación del derecho internacional, asì como con Jorge Glas, cuyos derechos han sido violados de nuevo.
El PIE condena y rechaza las acciones del gobierno de Noboa en la Embajada de México en Quito, así como el secuestro del ex vicepresidente, Jorge Glas, del que se desconoce su paradero y exige su inmediata puesta en libertad.
Al mismo tiempo, el PIE exige la sospension del acuerdo UE/Ecuador por la flagrante violacion del articulo 2.

The European Left Party condemns the attack on the Mexican Embassy in Quito and the kidnapping of Jorge Glas
Last night a group of military and police officers, known as “The Security Bloc”, forcibly entered the Mexican embassy in Ecuador, located in the capital, Quito.
The main objective of the assault was to arrest former vice-president Jorge Glas Espinel, a fact that comes after Mexico publicly communicated its decision to grant diplomatic asylum to Jorge Glas.
Ecuador is once again in the news for events that are making headlines around the world and are yet another example of the authoritarianism of Noboa’s government.
The invasion of the Mexican embassy in Quito to arrest Jorge Glas also violates human rights and Latin American conventions on asylum, endangering the physical integrity of both Jorge Glas and the Mexican embassy staff. After the expulsion of the Mexican ambassador, the diplomatic official in charge, Roberto Canseco, was assaulted when he tried to stop the arrest.
This is a serious breach of a country’s sovereignty and a violation of international law. Especially the provisions of art. 29 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Missions.
This sets a very dangerous precedent of violence and abuse of power. A shameful act of President Noboa who does not represent the Ecuadorian people.
The Party of the European Left (EL) expresses its solidarity with Mexico in the face of such a serious violation of its sovereignty and of international law, as well as with Jorge Glas, whose rights have been violated once again.
The EL condemns and rejects the actions of the Noboa government in the Mexican Embassy in Quito, as well as the kidnapping of the former vice-president, Jorge Glas, whose whereabouts are unknown, and demands his immediate release.
At the same time, the EL demands the suspension of the EU/Ecuador agreement for blatant violation of Article 2.
