Haiti: the only way out of the crisis is a Haitian solution
The Party of the European Left (PGE) expresses its deep concern at the situation in Haiti, where armed criminal gangs have unleashed a brutal offensive against infrastructure and public buildings in the Port-au-Prince region, including hospitals.
As many people in Haiti have said, the current fighting is not a political struggle between two opposing parties, but a war against the Haitian people, who are the first victims of the violence and atrocities, and who are now facing an acute humanitarian, food and health crisis.
The members of the Core Group – notably the United States, the European Union and several of its member states (France, Germany, Spain) – bear a heavy responsibility for the current situation, having supported Ariel Henry’s illegal government to the very end.
The current situation therefore calls for a profound reconsideration of the attitude of the Core Group and the UN Security Council towards Haiti. Interference, military and police intervention and solutions that are out of touch with Haitian realities and national players have proved to be a failure, and the Haitian people are paying the consequences.
The resignation of Ariel Henry, a demand of the Haitian popular movement, should open up a phase of broad national consultation in order to find a way out of the crisis through a transition of rupture, under the full control and sovereignty of the Haitian people.
The PGE gives its full support to the popular movement and to the democratic players in Haiti in their efforts to achieve this.

Le Parti de la gauche européenne (PGE) exprime sa profonde préoccupation face à la situation en Haïti, alors que les bandes criminelles armées ont déclenché une brutale offensive contre infrastructures et bâtiments publics dans la région de Port-au-Prince, y compris des hôpitaux.
Comme ont pu l’exprimer de nombreuses voix en Haïti, les affrontements actuels ne constituent pas une lutte politique entre deux parties opposées, mais bien une guerre contre le peuple haïtien, qui est la première victime des violences et exactions et qui est désormais confronté à une crise humanitaire, alimentaire et sanitaire aiguë.
Les membres du « Core Group » – notamment les États-Unis, l’Union européenne et plusieurs de ses États-membres (France, Allemagne, Espagne) – portent une lourde responsabilité dans la situation actuelle, en ayant soutenu jusqu’au bout le gouvernement illégal d’Ariel Henry.
La situation actuelle appelle donc à une profonde remise en question de l’attitude du Core Group et du Conseil de sécurité de l’ONU vis-à-vis d’Haïti. Les ingérences, interventions militaires et policières et les solutions déconnectées des réalités haïtiennes et des acteurs nationaux ont prouvé leur échec, dont le peuple haïtien paye les conséquences.
La démission d’Ariel Henry, revendication du mouvement populaire haïtien, doit permettre d’ouvrir une phase de large concertation nationale pour engager une sortie de crise via une transition de rupture, sous le plein contrôle et la pleine souveraineté des Haïtiennes et Haïtiens.
Le PGE apporte son plein soutien au mouvement populaire et aux acteurs démocratiques d’Haïti dans leurs efforts en ce sens.

El Partido de la Izquierda Europea (PGE) expresa su profunda preocupación por la situación en Haití, donde bandas criminales armadas han desatado una brutal ofensiva contra las infraestructuras y los edificios públicos de la región de Puerto Príncipe, incluidos los hospitales.
Como han dicho muchas personas en Haití, los actuales enfrentamientos no son una lucha política entre dos partidos opuestos, sino una guerra contra el pueblo haitiano, que es la primera víctima de la violencia y las atrocidades, y que ahora se enfrenta a una aguda crisis humanitaria, alimentaria y sanitaria.
Los miembros del Grupo Central -en particular Estados Unidos, la Unión Europea y varios de sus Estados miembros (Francia, Alemania, España)- tienen una gran responsabilidad en la situación actual, por haber apoyado hasta el final al gobierno ilegal de Ariel Henry.
La situación actual exige, por tanto, una profunda reconsideración de la actitud del Grupo Central y del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU hacia Haití. La injerencia, la intervención militar y policial y las soluciones alejadas de la realidad haitiana y de los actores nacionales han demostrado ser un fracaso, y el pueblo haitiano está pagando las consecuencias.
La dimisión de Ariel Henry, exigencia del movimiento popular haitiano, debería abrir una fase de amplia concertación nacional para encontrar una salida a la crisis mediante una transición de ruptura, bajo el pleno control y la soberanía del pueblo haitiano.
El PGE brinda todo su apoyo al movimiento popular y a los actores democráticos de Haití en sus esfuerzos para lograrlo.
