BETTER FUTURE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE!

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY – WE DEMAND ABETTER FUTUTE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE!

Statement of The EL Youth Network (ELYN) on International Youth Day

Today, on August 12th, the European Left and the European Left Youth Network join hands with young people across the world to celebrate International Youth Day. We call on European countries and the European Union to do more to empower young people, and tackle issues faced by young people.

Young people across Europe face issues with lack of access to education, high tuition fees, inadequate mental healthcare, expensive housing, high unemployment and low wages. As young socialists, leftists and progressives, we believe that these issues are systematic to the capitalist economic and social system, and they can only be overcome through systematic change.

Every young person in Europe should have the right to free education, welfare and safety. The privatisation of higher education must end and tuition fees must be abolished. Access to free access to healthcare, including mental health and abortions, must be guaranteed for everyone. We must fight against systemic racism and police violence.

On this International Youth Day, we demand a better future for young people across Europe and the World. Let’s fight together for a better Europe for young people!
