USA, stop strangling cuba!

The Party of the European Left expressed its rejection of the United States’ attempt to impose trade tariffs on companies that supply fuel to Cuba, condemning the island to an even more brutal blockade than the one it already suffers.

To justify an action of such gravity, accusations are made claiming that Cuba constitutes an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the national security of the United States—an assertion that is false and absurd.

With this decision, the United States government seeks to intensify Cuba’s economic suffocation by arrogating to itself the power to decide which nations may trade with Cuba and which may not, once again violating international law.

Cuba is not a threat to the United States or to any country in the world. On the contrary, it has repeatedly demonstrated its solidarity with other nations and its commitment to peace.

For these reasons, we call on the European Union not to accept this Order of 19 June.
