The European Left Celebrates its summer university in Mieres (Asturies, Spain)

The European Left and its foundation transform!europe celebrates these 11th, 12th and 13th of July its Summer University in Mieres del Camino (Spain).

In the opening session, after the welcoming speeches by Mayor of Mieres Manuel Ángel Álvarez Álvarez, Coordinator of IU Asturias Ovidio Zapico and Roland Kulke (transform!europe), European Left’s president, Walter Baier, highlighted that the slogan of the Summer University [“the unity of the people is the strength of the left] mentions unity, and the task of the European Left is to contribute to this unity through dialogue between political and social forces”.

The first plenary session, with the participation of Julie Maenaut from the International Department of the PTB-PVDA (Belgium), analysed the recent European and French elections.

During these days, several seminars, trainings and plenaries are taking place, as stated in the Summer University 2024 program, with analysis of topics such as progressive political communication, countering the far right, peace, militarisation, just transition, economy for the people, EU enlargement or redefining the working class.
