Stop the Evictions in Bedriska colony in Ostrava, CZ!

We support the efforts to stop the evictions in the Bedřiška neighborhood in Ostrava, as brought to our attention by our member party Levice in the Czech Republic. A long-standing home to predominantly Romani families, Bedřiška is facing renewed demolitions and evictions. We stand with the activists, engaged politicians, and civil society actors working on the ground to defend housing rights and prevent forced evictions.

Stop the Evictions in Bedřiška, Ostrava!

On 12. 11. 2025, four houses in the Bedřiška colony were demolished without notice. The people facing these evictions are predominantly Romani residents, who have for years been subjected to long-term discrimination, short-term leases, and obstruction of basic maintenance.

Despite this, the community has built a self-organized neighborhood (maintaining a community center, supporting each other, and welcoming new families).

The municipality is now attempting to demolish another house and evict even more residents soon. Local residents, together with activists, are currently defending the remaining houses and the community in Bedřiška.
