Stop escalating the war in Iran

European Left Party President’s Statement on the Middle East Crisis

Israel’s unprovoked attack on Iran, in violation of international law, has triggered a new and dangerous escalation in the Middle East. There is a growing risk of direct involvement by US and British forces on Israel’s side, further increasing the threat of a global war. We call for an immediate end to Israeli aggression and a ceasefire by all parties involved.

This reckless escalation risks diverting international attention from the Israeli government’s genocidal policies in Gaza, its expansionist agenda in the West Bank, and its ongoing aggression against Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.

We demand the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, unrestricted access for humanitarian aid, and the release of all hostages, as well as Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli jails.

Only a two-state solution, as outlined in the relevant UN resolutions, can lay the foundations for a just and lasting peace.

The European Union and its member states must no longer remain passive in the face of Israel’s repeated violations of international law and crimes against humanity.

We therefore demand:

  • Recognition of the State of Palestine by the EU and its member states
  • Economic sanctions against Israel
  • Suspension of the EU–Israel Association Agreement
