Greek Left (SYRIZA, KKE, NA, PE) Unite on Palestine Crisis
Statement by the Parliamentary Groups of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Nea Aristera (New Left), and Plefsi Eleftherias on the dramatic situation faced by the Palestinian people
To the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis
The people of Palestine are experiencing dramatic moments. The state and government of Israel are escalating military operations in the Gaza Strip with the declared aim of cleansing it of its Palestinian population. In this context, they are even denying the provision of humanitarian aid, placing the Palestinian people under the threat of famine. The partial or total extermination of a population constitutes genocide.
The United Nations has warned that thousands of infants in Gaza are at risk of death due to malnutrition and lack of medicine. A real genocide is taking place in Gaza before the eyes of humanity, which has so far resulted in more than 61,000 dead, 119,000 injured, and hundreds of thousands displaced, the overwhelming majority of whom are civilians.
Daily and on a large scale, acts of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes are being committed, in violation of every principle and provision of international law, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law—and in complete opposition to the sentiments of the peoples of the world, including the Greek people, who have historically expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people. The International Criminal Court, of which Greece is a founding member, has issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu for international crimes.

In light of all these critical developments, the Greek government has no political, legal, or moral right to justify and ultimately support these crimes. It must—especially as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council—take active, urgent, and clear initiatives to:
- Stop the genocide against the Palestinian people,
- Address the humanitarian crisis, and
- Recognize the Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The undersigned Parliamentary Groups, through their Presidents, send this statement to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, urging them to take action in the following directions:
- Immediate cessation of all Israeli military operations in Gaza and establishment of a ceasefire.
- Immediate opening of all humanitarian corridors to deliver aid, water, food, medicine, medical supplies, and doctors to combat famine among Palestinians.
- Explicit and unequivocal condemnation by the Greek government of the crimes committed by the State of Israel against the Palestinian people, against workers and volunteers, doctors and nurses, humanitarian organizations and missions, and against UN humanitarian aid personnel.
- Termination of Greece’s military cooperation with the State of Israel.
- Immediate implementation of the unanimous 2015 decision of the Greek Parliament to recognize the Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
- An invitation, under the responsibility of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, for the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, to address the Greek Parliament in order to inform the Greek people about the situation in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories as a whole.
