The European Left Criticizes Democratic Decline in Republic of Moldova, Calls on EU to Re-evaluate Support.

The European Left (EL) expresses concern over the degradation of democracy and civil liberties in Moldova, citing media suppression, opposition persecution, and a lack of genuine reforms. It criticizes the EU’s unconditional support for Moldova’s government, arguing it undermines European values. The EL calls on the Moldovan authorities, particularly the PAS party and President Maia Sandu, to restore democratic development and respect for freedom, democracy, and pluralism. The EL will inform the EU to adjust relations with Moldova based on these principles.

Declaration of the Party of the European Left   on the situation in the Republic of Moldova

The Party of the European Left (EL) having heard and taken note of relevant information on the situation in the Republic of Moldova and the electoral process, notes the following:
There are numerous signs of degradation of democratic processes in the Republic of Moldova and a significant decline in the level of civil and democratic rights and freedoms.
There are cases of direct violation of the fundamental principles of equality and pluralism.
The ruling authorities in Moldova have resorted to suppression of freedom of speech, physical banning of the media, intimidation, and persecution of the political opposition, including through law enforcement and security agencies.
The fact of direct and unconditional support of the Moldovan authorities by the European bureaucracy deserves special attention, causing significant damage to the image of the European Union and discrediting European values in the Moldovan society.
One of the consequences of the above-mentioned facts is the incomplete process of Moldova’s European integration, expressed in the imitation of reforms and lack of real progress towards the implementation of European standards.
The EL cannot allow the young Moldovan democracy to be rolled back.
The EL calls on the Moldovan authorities, represented by the ruling PAS party and the current President Maia Sandu, to return the country to democratic development, restore political and civil liberties and adhere to true European values in their practices.
The EL will take measures to inform all interested parties at the EU level with a view of adjusting relations with Moldova based on unconditional European principles of freedom, democracy, and pluralism.

Déclaration du Parti de la Gauche Européenne sur la situation en République de Moldavie
Le Parti de la Gauche Européenne (PGE), après avoir entendu et pris note des informations pertinentes sur la situation en République de Moldavie et sur le processus électoral, déclare ce qui suit :
Il existe de nombreux signes de dégradation des processus démocratiques en République de Moldavie et un déclin significatif du niveau des droits et libertés civils et démocratiques.
Il existe des cas de violation directe des principes fondamentaux d’égalité et de pluralisme.
Les autorités au pouvoir en Moldavie ont eu recours à la suppression de la liberté d’expression, à l’interdiction physique des médias, à l’intimidation et à la persécution de l’opposition politique, y compris par l’intermédiaire des forces de l’ordre et des agences de sécurité.
Le soutien direct et inconditionnel des autorités moldaves par la bureaucratie européenne mérite une attention particulière, car il porte un préjudice considérable à l’image de l’Union européenne et discrédite les valeurs européennes dans la société moldave.
L’une des conséquences des faits susmentionnés est le processus incomplet d’intégration européenne de la Moldavie, qui se traduit par l’imitation des réformes et l’absence de progrès réels dans la mise en œuvre des normes européennes.
Le PGE ne peut pas permettre que la jeune démocratie moldave recule.
Le PGE appelle les autorités moldaves, représentées par le parti PAS au pouvoir et l’actuelle Présidente Maia Sandu, à remettre le pays sur la voie du développement démocratique, à restaurer les libertés politiques et civiles et à adhérer aux véritables valeurs européennes dans leurs pratiques.
Le PGE prendra des mesures pour informer toutes les parties intéressées au niveau de l’UE en vue d’ajuster les relations avec la Moldavie sur la base des principes européens inconditionnels de liberté, de démocratie et de pluralisme.
