Respect for democracy in Bolivia

Bolivia, its democracy and its Government and President, continue under a strong destabilizing offensive by former coup plotters and allied sectors of the extreme right, especially in the state of Santa Cruz. 

The Party of the European Left (EL) views with great concern the acts of vandalism and physical violence against people by sectors of the extreme right, counting on the Bolivian justice, tending to attack the rule of law, democracy and the Bolivian presidency.

Judicial life in any democratic country is independent of political power and must respect the Constitution, the right to defence and the legal norms that establish that all are equal before the law.

Why should the governor of Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, have privileged treatment, above ordinary citizens, before the law?

Extreme violence has been used against public and private property and against the individual security of many members of MAS, the political party that governs Bolivia.

Under the pretext of rejecting Camacho’s preventive detention, they looted, burned and destroyed dozens of public and private buildings. And with the same pretext they took the airport of Santa Cruz, a city that is experiencing an anguished wave of vandalism harangued and promoted by the neocolonial ultra-right follower of Governor Camacho.

A look back at the recent events of terrorists supporting far-right coup plotters.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2022
– After learning of the arrest of Luis Fernando Camacho, his followers at the head of the Civic Committee, the UJC and its operational arms, staged attacks and confrontation with the citizens.
– On Wednesday they took over the Viru Viru airport and intimidated public officials from various institutions.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2022
– Violence broke out with the burning of the building of the National Council for the Fight against Illicit Drug Trafficking (Conaltid).
– The National Tax Office on Ovidio Barbery Avenue was ransacked.
– They took over the Directorate of Support for the Prevention of Drug Use, Control of Illicit Trafficking of Controlled Substances and Excess of Cocaine (Diprevcon) headquarters.
– They burnt down the house of the Minister of Public Works, Edgar Montaño.
– They invaded and caused serious damage to the infrastructure of the Palace of Justice, Sereci, Segip, the former Conaltid and the Departmental Directorate of Migration.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2022
– A group of people looted and burned the offices of the National Tax Service (SIN) and several shops and businesses in the Plan 3,000 district.
– Almost in parallel, there was a fire in the infrastructure of the Forest and Land Authority (ABT), in the fourth ring.
– The head office of Entel was violently attacked, they broke glass, furniture and tried to take over the facility.
– Groups related to the Civic Committee tried to take over the offices of National Taxes on Sucre Street. Police and military guard the place.
– The UJC, described by the GIEI as an “irregular group,” issued a statement in which it states: “we are going to ignore all the Police” and adds “we are going to take all the institutions, and we are going to start, in unity, with the Command.”
– Violent groups took over SIN offices in Equipetrol and kidnapped one of its officials who was taken hooded to an unknown location and subjected him to humiliation and torture.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2022
– Camacho’s violent supporters led to a massive attack on the Departmental Police Command, where they were restrained by law enforcement.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 1, 2023
– They invaded, looted and burned, in the early hours of the morning, the North Agency of Banco Unión, located on Banzer Avenue.
– Violent groups entered a vehicle importer on Beni Avenue and caused serious damage to a dozen new motorized vehicles.
– They burned a police station in the Cotoca Canal located between the third and fourth ring.
– In the night, they again attacked en masse towards the Departmental Police Command, near Christ the Redeemer, attacked law enforcement officers with Molotov cocktails.”

As a result of these criminal activities, the neo-fascist deputy of Vox, Vitor Guido González Coello, from Spain, has just been expelled from Bolivia by the migration services for activities against the Bolivian State and the Bolivian Government.

The far right is known to organize itself to conspire against democracy and democratic values. The attempted assassination of Cristina de Kirchner is an example of this criminal activity, as well as the events in Santa Cruz in the plurinational state of Bolivia, with its well-known agents of the coup d’état four years ago.

In a democracy, in a democratic Republic, no one is above the law. Given the independence of powers, in a state of law, governments have nothing to do with judicial decisions. Why do the agents of the coup oligarchy of Santa Cruz understand that they are above the law and believe that they have the right to confront democratic institutions and Bolivian democracy?

The EL stands in solidarity with the democratic institutions of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, with its President and Gobierno, in the attack it has suffered from coup and criminal sectors. The EL condemns the terrorist activities recently carried out by agents of the detained governor of Santa Cruz, accused of several crimes, including his participation in the last coup d’état against President Evo Morales.

We demand respect for the judicial decisions of a democratic state, with a view to defending stability, peace and respect for the Bolivian Constitution.

We condemn the coup plot and the violent activities recently unleashed by neo-fascist sectors of the extreme right.

For peace, for democratic coexistence.

Respeto a la democracia en Bolivia

Bolivia, su democracia y su Gobierno y Presidente, siguen bajo una fuerte ofensiva desestabilizadora por parte de ex golpistas y sectores aliados de la extrema derecha, especialmente en el estado de Santa Cruz.

El Partido de la Izquierda Europea (PIE) ve con gran preocupación los actos de vandalismo y violencia física contra las personas por parte de sectores de extrema derecha, contando con la justicia boliviana, tendientes a atentar contra el Estado de derecho, la democracia y la presidencia boliviana.

La vida judicial en cualquier país democrático es independiente del poder político y debe respetar la Constitución, el derecho a la defensa y las normas jurídicas que establecen que todos son iguales ante la ley.

¿Por qué el gobernador de Santa Cruz, Luis Fernando Camacho, debe tener un trato privilegiado, por encima de los ciudadanos comunes, ante la ley?

La violencia extrema se ha utilizado contra la propiedad pública y privada y contra la seguridad individual de muchos miembros del MAS, el partido político que gobierna Bolivia.

Con el pretexto de rechazar la detención preventiva de Camacho saquearon, quemaron y destrozaron decenas de inmuebles públicos y privados. Y Con el mismo pretexto tomaron el aeropuerto de Santa Cruz, ciudad que vive una angustiosa ola de vandalismo arengada y promovida por la ultra derecha neocolonial seguidora del gobernador Camacho.

Una mirada retrospectiva a los eventos recientes de los terroristas que apoyan a los golpistas de extrema derecha.

MIÉRCOLES 28 DE DICIEMBRE 2022
– Tras enterarse de la detención de Luis Fernando Camacho, sus seguidores a la cabeza del Comité Cívico, la UJC y sus brazos operativos, protagonizaron ataques y confrontación con la ciudadanía.
– El miércoles tomaron el aeropuerto de Viru Viru y amedrentaron a funcionarios públicos de diversas instituciones.

JUEVES 29 DE DICIEMBRE 2022
– Se desató la violencia con la quema del edificio del Consejo Nacional de Lucha contra el Tráfico Ilícito de Drogas (Conaltid).
– Saquearon la oficina de Impuestos Nacionales de la avenida Ovidio Barbery.
– Tomaron la sede de la Diprevcon.
– Quemaron la vivienda del ministro de Obras Públicas, Edgar Montaño.
– Invadieron y causaron graves daños a infraestructuras del Palacio de Justicia, del Sereci, el Segip, el ex Conaltid y la Dirección Departamental de Migración.

VIERNES 30 DE DICIEMBRE 2022
– Un grupo de personas saqueó y quemó las oficinas del Servicio de Impuestos Nacionales (SIN) y varios comercios y negocios en la zona Plan 3.000.
– Casi de manera paralela se registró un incendio en la infraestructura de la Autoridad de Bosques y Tierras (ABT), en el cuarto anillo.
– La oficina central de Entel fue violentamente atacada, rompieron vidrios, muebles e intentaron tomar la instalación.
– Grupos afines al Comité Cívico intentaron tomar las oficinas de Impuestos Nacionales de la calle Sucre. Policías y militares resguardan el lugar.
– La UJC, calificada por el GIEI como “grupo irregular”, emitió un comunicado en el que señala: “vamos a desconocer a toda la Policía” y agrega “vamos a tomar todas las instituciones, y vamos a empezar, en unidad, por el Comando”.
– Grupos violentos tomaron oficinas del SIN en Equipetrol y secuestraron a uno de sus funcionarios a quien llevaron encapuchado a un lugar desconocido y lo sometieron a vejámenes y torturas.

SÁBADO 31 DE DICIEMBRE 2022
– Los violentos seguidores de Camacho propiciaron un masivo ataque al Comando Departamental de la Policía, donde fueron contenidos por las fuerzas del orden.

DOMINGO 1 DE ENERO 2023
– Invadieron, saquearon y quemaron, en horas de la madrugada, la Agencia Norte del Banco Unión, ubicada en la avenida Banzer.
– Grupos violentos ingresaron a una importadora de vehículos en la avenida Beni y causaron graves destrozos en una decena de motorizados nuevos.
– Quemaron una comisaría policial en el Canal Cotoca ubicado entre el tercer y el cuarto anillo.
– En la noche, nuevamente arremetieron en masa hacia el Comando Departamental de la Policía, cercano al Cristo Redentor, atacaron a efectivos del orden con bombas molotov.”

A raíz de estas actividades delictivas, el diputado neofascista de Vox, de España, Vitor Guido González Coello, acaba de ser expulsado de Bolivia por los servicios de migración por actividades contra el Estado y el Gobierno boliviano.

Se sabe que la extrema derecha se organiza para conspirar contra la democracia y los valores democráticos. El intento de asesinato de Cristina de Kirchner es parte de esta actividad criminal, por ejemplo. Los hechos de Santa Cruz en el estado plurinacional de Bolivia también, con sus ya conocidos agentes del golpe de Estado hace 4 años.

En una democracia, en una República democrática, nadie está por encima de la ley. Dada la independencia de poderes, en un estado de derecho, los gobiernos no tienen nada que ver con las decisiones judiciales. ¿Por qué los agentes de la oligarquía golpista de Santa Cruz entienden que están por encima de la ley y creen que tienen derecho a enfrentar las instituciones democráticas y la democracia boliviana?

El PIE se solidariza con las instituciones democráticas del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia, con su Presidente y Gobierno, en el ataque que ha sufrido por parte de sectores golpistas y criminales. El PIE condena las actividades terroristas que han llevado a cabo recientemente agentes del detenido gobernador de Santa Cruz, acusados de varios delitos, entre ellos su participación en el último golpe de Estado contra el Presidente Evo Morales.

Demandamos respeto a las decisiones judiciales de un estado democrático, con miras a defender la estabilidad, la paz y el respeto a la Constitución boliviana.

Condenamos la trama golpista y las actividades violentas desatadas recientemente por sectores neofascistas de extrema derecha.

Por la paz, por la convivencia democrática.
Contra el golpe neofascista.
Contra el terrorismo fascista.
Por las libertades y la democracia.
