This event is organised by The Left in the European Parliament in the context of growing global uncertainty, with rising tensions, shifting alliances and increasing focus on security and defence. Eighty years after the end of the Second World War, it is a moment to reflect on the lessons of history and the challenges of today. With this event, we aim to create a space for thoughtful exchange on peace, disarmament and collective security—bringing together policymakers, experts and civil society voices to explore pathways toward a more stable and cooperative future.

The Party of the European Left proudly supports this event marking 80 years since Europe’s liberation from Nazism.
In a time of rising far-right forces and efforts to whitewash history, defending historical memory is not only necessary — it is an act of resistance.
