In Memory of Comrade Youssef Khader Habash

It is with deep sorrow and a sense of profound loss that the Party of the European Left and its International Commission received the news of the passing of our comrade Youssef Khader Habash.

We had the privilege of working alongside him in the Mediterranean Conference of the Left and anyone who shared that space with him knows what an extraordinary presence he was: sharp, committed, tireless, always driven by an unwavering sense of justice and an unshakeable belief that another world is not only necessary but possible. We are so proud to have shared with him another moment of solidarity with Palestine during our last Congress in April a memory we will carry with us.

There is grief in this moment. And there is also rage, the kind that comes when we lose someone too soon, someone whose energy and dedication this world still needed. But we also know this: a life given so fully to the right causes is never truly over. It lives on in every struggle he helped to ignite, in every comrade he inspired, in every space where his words and his example continue to resonate.

He fought for the liberation of the Palestinian people. He worked tirelessly for peace and justice in South West Asia and Northern Africa. He believed in a world where no people lives under occupation, no voice is silenced, no dignity is denied.

That cause does not end with him if anything, it calls on us to carry it forward with even greater determination.

To his family, to his closest comrades, to all those who loved him and fought alongside him: the European Left stands with you in this moment of immense pain. You are not alone.

Chi ha compagn* non muore mai. Grazie Youssef!
