“I Want to Visit Öcalan” – A Joint Campaign for Peace and Democracy

Launched by the European Forum for Freedom and Peace (EFFP), the Party of the European Left, and The Left in the European Parliament, the “I Want to Visit Öcalan” campaign calls for international support in the struggle for a democratic solution to the Kurdish Question and the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.

Campaign Objective

This initiative invites academics, artists, politicians, journalists, and civil society actors across the globe to support peace and democracy in Turkey by affirming Abdullah Öcalan’s essential role in resolving the Kurdish Question.

At the heart of this campaign is the recognition of Öcalan’s public appeal of February 27 for “Peace and a Democratic Society”, and the urgent demand to lift the conditions of isolation that prevent him from contributing meaningfully to a political resolution.

The campaign underscores that enabling Öcalan’s participation in dialogue is necessary for achieving justice, equality, and democracy in Turkey and the broader region.

how to participate

  • Send a written request (via email or letter) to the Turkish Ministry of Justice, requesting permission to visit Mr. Öcalan on Imrali Island. Submissions may be made individually or institutionally.
  • Record a short video message (30 seconds to 2 minutes) stating your wish to visit Abdullah Öcalan and explaining why his freedom and political engagement are vital. These can be shared publicly on social media platforms.
  • Spread the word by encouraging others to participate and raising awareness through media and public discussion.

Purpose

The goal is to remove the restrictions that prevent Abdullah Öcalan from sharing his vision for Turkey, Kurdistan, the Middle East, and global democratic transformation. His ideas, developed through decades of study and reflection, represent a pathway toward peace.

This campaign seeks to build international visibility and momentum for a peaceful and democratic resolution to the Kurdish Question through direct civic engagement and solidarity.
