Freedom Now: Abdullah Öcalan’s Right to Hope
Council of Europe urged to end isolation & uphold justice.
The Party of the European Left expresses its support for the international campaign calling for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. On 15 September, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will discuss Mr. Öcalan’s case, with a particular focus on the “Right to Hope.”
This moment is a crucial opportunity to urge Turkey to end Mr. Öcalan’s isolation, implement the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights, and open the path to peace and democratic self-governance in the region.
Today, we have sent a letter to Mr. Ian Borg, President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, urging decisive action to ensure compliance with international human rights law and to enable Mr. Öcalan’s participation in the peace process.
The Party of the European Left stands firmly for justice, human rights, and peace. We call on all democratic forces, movements, and governments to join in this effort and to insist on the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan as a cornerstone for a just and lasting peace.
