After Trump-Plan: Solidarity with Palestine must not waver

For the Palestinians, the Trump plan contains at least the assurance that they will not be exterminated or expelled. This represents a victory for international solidarity and for the clear stance taken by the international community at the UN General Assembly. The release of hostages and political prisoners, as well as the prospect that Hamas will no longer play a role in the future, removes important obstacles to a peace settlement.

At the same time, however, the plan continues to deny the Palestinians their right to self-determination. A sustainable and just peace cannot be achieved by imposing a solution over the heads of the Palestinians. It is nothing more than a colonialist dictate under the leadership of the USA and Israel, which continues to pursue its goal of establishing a Greater Israel from the river to the sea.

We therefore demand an immediate ceasefire, the opening of Gaza’s borders to humanitarian aid, and the recognition of the Palestinians’ right to a viable, democratic state of their own that can coexist peacefully with Israel as envisaged by the two-state solution. This requires continued sanctions against Israel and the recognition of Palestine as a state. Solidarity must not waver.
