European Left Condemns Israeli Aggression in Lebanon
STATEMENT
By Marta Martín Morán, Head of the European Left’s International Department, and Anna Camposampiero, Chair of the SWANA Working Group
Solidarity with Lebanon and the Lebanese Communist Party
The European Left Party expresses its solidarity with the Lebanese Communist Party and condemns Israeli aggression against Lebanon.
On 7 July, the International Commission of the European Left Party held a meeting with Hanna Gharib, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Communist Party, to exchange views on the regional situation and to strengthen avenues for solidarity and cooperation between our organizations.
At this moment of heightened tension in West Asia, the European Left Party expresses its full solidarity with the Lebanese Communist Party and the people of Lebanon. We firmly condemn Israeli aggression, ongoing violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and any attempt to occupy Lebanese territory.
We demand an immediate end to the attacks, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, and full respect for international law. We also denounce the support provided by the United States and the European Union’s political, military, and diplomatic complicity, which fuel Israel’s impunity and contribute to the spread of the war across the region.
The European Left Party reaffirms its commitment to all those who struggle for justice, the sovereignty of peoples, and lasting peace. We encourage our member parties, activists, and all forces of solidarity to contribute to supporting displaced people and victims of war in Lebanon and to strengthen initiatives in support of the Lebanese people.
