“On behalf of the Party of the European Left, I’d like to express our heartfelt congratulations to Jean-Luc Mélenchon and France Insoumise, regarding the results in yesterday’s presidential elections in France”, says Heinz Bierbaum, President of the EL.
“We also extend our warmest congratulations to our comrades in the Parti communiste français (PCF) and to Fabien Roussel, for becoming an indispensable figure to the party and for running a great campaign.
“Although this election saw 4.4 points lower turnout than in 2017, Mélenchon took the third place with 22%, vote, which was quite close to the other major contenders’ figures. The result did not allow him to advance to the next stage, however, we wish to congratulate his accomplishment as a powerful prospective candidate.
“As we approach the second round of elections on the 24th of April, it is evident that we need powerful alternatives to the multiple failing globalized capitalist practices and strong opposition voices to upkeep the rights of French workers. Racist, Islamophobic fearmongering has no place in our societies, and we are positive it will be rejected by the French voters.
“We pledge to continue to support la France Insoumise and the PCF in their fight and wish them the best in the future”.

Le PGE félicite Jean-Luc Mélenchon et Fabien Roussel
“Au nom du Parti de la Gauche Européenne, je voudrais exprimer nos plus sincères félicitations à Jean-Luc Mélenchon et à la France Insoumise, concernant les résultats des élections présidentielles d’hier en France, déclare Heinz Bierbaum, Président du PGE.
“Nous adressons également nos plus chaleureuses félicitations à nos camarades du Parti communiste français (PCF) et à Fabien Roussel, qui est devenu une figure indispensable du parti et a mené une excellente campagne.
“Bien que cette élection ait connu un taux de participation inférieur de 4,4 points à celui de 2017, Mélenchon a pris la troisième place avec 22%, des voix, ce qui est assez proche des chiffres des autres grands prétendants. Le résultat ne lui a pas permis de passer à l’étape suivante, cependant, nous souhaitons féliciter son accomplissement en tant que candidat potentiel puissant.
“A l’approche du second tour des élections le 24 avril, il est évident que nous avons besoin d’alternatives puissantes aux multiples pratiques capitalistes mondialisées défaillantes et de voix d’opposition fortes pour maintenir les droits des travailleurs français. L’alarmisme raciste et islamophobe n’a pas sa place dans nos sociétés et nous sommes certains qu’il sera rejeté par les électeurs français.
“Nous nous engageons à continuer à soutenir la France Insoumise et le PCF dans leur combat et leur souhaitons le meilleur pour l’avenir.”
