On the European Union’s (EU) handling of the Covid-19 crisis Heinz Bierbaum, President of the Party of the European Left, declares:

The results of the EU-summit on Covid-19 are more than insufficient. Once again the EU fails as an anchor in stormy times. Italy and Spain, currently the most effected member countries of the EU need mir support and solidarity from the EU: the setup of an investment plan by the European Central Bank (ECB) to tackle the social and economic effects of the crisis and the abolition European Stability Pact (ESM) should be up implemented soon. It must be mentioned as well that once again the German government is playing a key role in preventing a European solidaric approach in times of a crisis.

Furthermore the EU should guarantee that private pharmaceutical cooperations are not increasing the price tags on much needed medication. EU-funded medical tools and technologies for Covid-19 must be made available, accessible and affordable for patients in Europe and the whole world.
