The Party of the European Left accompanied the inauguration of the Colombian President and Vice-President
Bogotá, D.C., August 7, 2022. – On 7 August, the left-wing leader, economist Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego, and Francia Elena Márquez-Mina, lawyer and environmental leader, who were elected on 19 June with more than 11 million votes, were sworn in as President and Vice-President of Colombia.
The inauguration of this presidency was accompanied by a delegation of the Party of the European Left (EL), led by Maite Mola, First Vice-President in charge of International Relations; Paolo Ferrero, Vice-President; Iñigo Martínez Zatón, Member of Unidas Podemos-Izquierda Unida in the Basque Parliament and member of the EL Executive Board; Paul-Emile Dupret, member of the eco-socialist movement DEMAIN and of the working group on Latin America and the Caribbean; Piera Muccigrosso, Political Advisor and Project Manager of the Party.
The inauguration ceremony, which took place in the emblematic Plaza de Bolivar, was attended by 24 Presidents and political leaders from around the world, including the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric; Pedro Castillo, President of Peru; Guillermo Lasso, leader of Ecuador; Luis Abidaner, President of the Dominican Republic, among others.
In addition, the unprecedented event was attended by more than 100,000 people, including young people, students, women, peasants, victims of the armed conflict, leaders who traveled from different regions of the country and who filled the streets of the center of the Colombian capital with joy, as requested in previous days by the current President Gustavo Petro.
For this purpose, four squares were set up and equipped with giant screens that transmitted, with the latest technology, the minute by minute of the inauguration of the first left-wing president in Colombia, after more than 200 years of republican life.
As part of the inauguration, 61 cultural events were held, with the participation of more than 700 artists on stage who entertained the people from the early hours of the morning.
The beginning of the government of President Gustavo Petro and his Vice-President Francia Márquez, takes place amid an upsurge in human rights violations in the regions and the assassination of social leaders and former combatants.
Faced with this situation, the Colombian president has committed himself to consolidating the so-called Total Peace, initiating talks with the ELN (National Liberation Army) and, from the legislature, advancing initiatives to bring narco-paramilitary groups to justice.

Partido de Izquierda Europea acompañó la posesión del Presidente y Vicepresidenta colombiana
Bogotá, D.C., Agosto 7 de 2022. – Este 7 de agosto tomó posesión como Presidente de Colombia, el líder de izquierda, el economista Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego y su Vicepresidenta, la abogada y lideresa ambiental, Francia Elena Márquez Mina, quienes fueron elegidos el pasado 19 de junio con más de 11 millones de votos.
La posesión del Presidente y Vicepresidenta de Colombia, estuvo acompañada por una delegación del Partido de Izquierda Europea (PIE), encabezada por Maite Mola, Vicepresidenta Primera y Responsable de Internacional; Paolo Ferrero, Vicepresidente; Iñigo Martínez Zatón, Diputado de Unidas Podemos-Izquierda Unida en el Parlamento Vasco y miembro del Comité Ejecutivo del PIE; Paul-Emile Dupret, integrante del Movimiento eco socialista DEMAIN y del grupo de trabajo sobre América Latina y del Caribe; Piera Muccigrosso, Asesora política y encargada de proyecto del Partido.
Al acto de posesión que se realizó en la emblemática Plaza de Bolívar, asistieron 24 Presidentes y líderes políticos del mundo, entre los que se destacaron, el presidente de Chile, Gabriel Boric, Pedro Castillo, mandatario de Perú, Guillermo Lasso, líder de Ecuador, Luis Abidaner, presidente de República Dominicana, entre otras personalidades.
Pero además, el evento sin precedentes, contó con la presencia de más de 100 mil personas, entre jóvenes, estudiantes, mujeres, campesinos, víctimas del conflicto armado, líderes y lideresas que se desplazaron desde diferentes regiones del país y que vistieron de alegría las calles del centro de la capital colombiana, tal y como lo había solicitado en días anteriores el hoy Presidente Gustavo Petro.
Para tal fin, se dispusieron cuatro plazas que fueron equipadas con pantallas gigantes que transmitieron con equipos de última tecnología, el minuto a minuto de la posesión del primer presidente de Izquierda en Colombia, luego de más de 200 años de vida republicana.
En el marco de la posesión se realizaron 61 actos culturales y contó con la participación de más de 700 artistas en escena que amenizaron desde tempranas horas la fiesta popular.
El inicio del gobierno del Presidente Gustavo Petro y su Vicepresidenta Francia Márquez, se da en medio del recrudecimiento de las violaciones de derechos humanos en las regiones y del asesinato de líderes y lideresas sociales, así como de ex combatientes.
Frente a esta situación el primer mandatario de los Colombianos se ha comprometido a consolidar la llamada Paz Total, iniciando conversaciones con el ELN (Ejercito de Liberación Nacional) y desde el legislativo, adelantando iniciativas de sometimiento a la justicia de los grupos narco paramilitares.
