SUMMARY:TUNE Conference - Confronting the New Industrial Priorities
DESCRIPTION:TEASER: https://x.com/europeanleft/status/1998054542538072343?s=20 \nThe Trade Unionist Network Europe (TUNE)\, a network supported by The Left in the European Parliament\, will bring together trade unions and labour representatives from across the continent to confront a defining question of the era: what is the European Union’s new industrial priority for the working people? \nIn an era of rapid technological transformation\, escalating militarisation\, and the advance of far-right policies\, this event convenes a crucial assembly of trade unionists\, political leaders\, and intellectuals to debate the path forward. The discussions will critically assess the profound impact of artificial intelligence on labour and the ways in which a militarised economy reshapes European industry. \nThrough this event\, participants will dissect these complex challenges and strategise on organising the working class in response. The goal is to forge a robust\, progressive alternative that champions a democratic and socially-just industrial model for Europe\, one that prioritises the needs of people over private profit or geopolitical conflict. \n\nSTREAMING\n \n\nPROGRAMME\n\n09:10-09:30 | Opening remarks\n \n\nÖzlem Demirel\, Member of the European Parliament – The Left.\nYota Lazaropoulou\, TUNE Network\, Greece.\nWalter Baier\, President of the Party of the European Left.\n\n09:30-09:45 | Intervention by: \n\nEsther Lynch\, ETUC General Secretary.\n\n\n9:45-10:00 | Intervention by: \n\nLi Anderson\, Member of the European Parliament – The Left.\n\n10:00‐10:40 | Interventions by: \n\nBert Engelaar\, General Secretary of ABVV/FGTB\, Belgium\nEffie Achtsioglou\, former Minister of Labour\, Social Security and Social Solidarity\, Greece\nUnai Sordo\, General Secretary of CC.OO\, Spain\nDr. Dierk Hirschel\, Ver.di chief economist\, Germany\n\n\n10:40‐12:20 | Panel 1 – “Challenges and opportunities of AI with the world of work” \nModerator: Giorgos Georgiou\, Member of the European Parliament – The Left. \nSpeakers: \n\nLeila Chaibi\, Member of the European Parliament – The Left.\nChristina J. SUMMARY:Housing Campaign: Housing is a Right\, Not a Commodity!
DESCRIPTION:Housing Campaign: 1st event\, Madrid\nHousing is a Right\, Not a Commodity!\nAcross Europe\, we are facing a housing crisis driven by neoliberal policies and an unsustainable model that has transformed housing into a speculative commodity. As a result\, working people are being denied this fundamental right and forced out of their towns and neighborhoods. \nIn response to this crisis\, which demands a united European approach\, the Party of the European Left and its members’ organizations have launched a European Housing Campaign to challenge this model and develop collective alternatives and strategies. To kick off this campaign in Spain\, Izquerda Unida is hosting a gathering for discussion and collaboration with leaders from various leftist organizations across Europe who are fighting against speculation and rentierism. \nSpeakers: \n📣 Antonio Maíllo\, federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida\, speaks to the media before participating in the event “Housing: A Right\, Not a Privilege”\, organized by IU and the Party of the European Left (EL). He will be joined by spokespersons from European parties\, IU’s federal head of housing\, Carolina Cordero\, the mayor of Rivas Vaciamadrid\, Aída Castillejo\, and Ovidio Zapico\, Minister of Territorial Planning\, Urbanism\, Housing\, and Citizens’ Rights in the Asturian government\, as well as coordinator of IU Asturias. \nThe meeting will take place on Friday\, February 14\, at 18:30 at Ecooo Space in Madrid (C/ de la Escuadra\, 11). Capacity is limited\, so we encourage early arrival. \nJoin us in building a Europe where HOUSING IS A RIGHT\, NOT A COMMODITY!
