The Party of the European Left observes with deep concern the dramatic events that are unfolding in Peru, after the forced removal of the elected President Pedro Castillo.
Beyond the possible mistakes of the government, we denounce the destabilisation attempt of the oligarchic and coup-plotting right wing against the presidency of Pedro Castillo. A destabilisation that began on the day of the elections with the non-recognition of the result, and has been maintained during these months with several the impeachment proceedings against Castillo, without respecting his mandate and maintaining a coup position.
The EL denounces the interference of the OAS and foreign countries with possible interests in Peru’s wealth, which is nothing new. It is no coincidence that the US ambassador, Lisa Kenna, who was sent to Peru a few weeks before the election deadline, has long been a CIA officer and met with the Minister of Defence the day before the coup.
Democracy and constitutional order must prevail over coup d’état and violence.
However, up to now, the indiscriminate repression against popular mobilisations has had a tragic result of more than 20 dead and hundreds of wounded. Far from restoring social peace, the repression and assassinations add fuel to the fire and aggravate the political and social crisis.
The de facto president, Dina Boluarte, and her government must lift the state of emergency, stop the violence against the population, listen to their demand for new parliamentary elections and a Constituent Assembly as soon as possible.
The judiciary must comply with the laws and the Constitution of the Republic, and not reproduce the lawfare strategy against the former President that has been used in other countries.
We call for the release of former president Pedro Castillo, so that he can face the trial against him with all the guarantees of defence, and with international monitoring, if he wishes so.
The Armed Forces must withdraw to their barracks, dedicate themselves to defend the borders of Peru, and not to repress their own people.
We stand in solidarity with all the social and political forces of the left and progressives ones in Peru, who are mobilised in defence of democratic freedoms, human rights, respect for the will of the people, and we urge all to defend peace against all kinds of violence.
The EL stands in solidarity with the Peruvian people’s struggle for democracy and justice, for respect for the will of the people, for a more just and more egalitarian Peru.

Contra el golpe, por la paz y el restablecimiento de la democracia en el Perú
El Partido de la Izquierda Europea observa con preocupación los dramaticos acontecimientos que se estàn desarrollando en el Perú, despues de la destituciòn forzada del Presidente electo Pedro Castillo.
Mas allà de posibles errores del gobierno, denunciamos el intento de destabilizacion de la derecha golpista y oligárquica en contra de la presidencia de Pedro Castillo. Una desestabilizacion que ha empezado el mismo dia de las elecciones con el no reconocimiento del resultado, y se ha mantenido en estos meses con los procedimientos de “impeachment” en contra de Castillo, sin respectar su mandato y manteniendo una postura golpista.
El PIE denuncia la injerencia de la OEA y de países extranjeros, con posibles intereses en las riquezas del Perú, lo cual no es nada nuevo. No es casualidad que la embajadora de Estados Unidos, Lisa Kenna, enviada a Perú unas semanas antes de las elecciones, haya sido durante mucho tiempo oficial de la CIA y que se haya reunido con el Ministro de Defensa el día antes del golpe.
La democracia y el orden constitucional deben prevalecer sobre el golpe de Estado y la violencia.
Sin embargo, hasta este momento, la represiòn indiscrimada en contra de las movilizaciones populares ha tenido a un saldo tragico de mas de 20 muertos y centenares de heridos. Lejos de restablecer la paz social, la represión y los asesinatos echan mas gasolina alfuego y agravan la crisi politica y social.
La presidente de hecho, Dina Boluarte, y su gobierno deben levantar el estado de emergencia, parar la violencia contra la poblacion, escuchar su demanda de celebrar nuevas elecciones parlamentarias y de realizar una Asamblea Constituyente, lo antes posible.
El poder judicial debe cumplir con las leyes y la Constitución de la República, y no reproducir la estrategia de Lawfare contra el expresidente concertada en otros países.
Pedimos la libertad del ex presidente Pedro Castillo, para que pueda enfrentar el juicio en su contra con todas las garantías de defensa, y con seguimiento internacional, si así lo desea.
Las Fuerzas Armadas deben retirarse a sus cuarteles, dedicarse a defender las fronteras del Perú, y no a reprimir a su propio pueblo.
Nos solidarizamos con todas las fuerzas sociales y politicas de izquierda y progresistas del Perú, que estàn movilizadas en defensa de las libertades democráticas, los derechos humanos, el respeto a la voluntad popular, e instamos a todos a defender la paz frente a todo tipo de violencia.
El PIE se solidariza con la lucha del pueblo peruano por la democracia y la justicia, por el respeto a la voluntad popular, por un Perú más justo e igualitario.
