Building Alternatives!

"Building Alternatives" – this is the slogan chosen for the 2nd Congress of the Party of the European Left (EL), taking place 23 - 25 November in Prague. Delegations from 29 member and observer parties will debate on alternatives for another policy of the European Union for a social, democratic, sustainable and peaceful Europe.

 In this frame an important subject will be the debate about EL orientation on activities towards elections of European

Parliament in 2009 - stressing the importance of struggling against flexicurity, for disarmament and against further militarization of the EU and tasks for European countries facing the challenges of climate change and to green policies for the people in a social just Europe. Furthermore the Congress will elect the EL executive bodies. Please find the Agenda here.

Since the beginning of the year 2007 there was a special working group established to work out the political thesis for the congress, please find them here. The final version was reached through consensus off all the representatives of EL member parties participating in the working group. The document presents common analyses for another policy for another Europe and the political lines of actions where the European Left wants get active.

A Press briefing on the 22nd of November at 1.00 p.m. organized by the hosting party “Strana demokratického socialismu” (SDS) together with representatives of the secretariat of the EL Executive Board will give a preview on the Congress. A  press conference  will take place on the 25th of November 2007 at 1.30 p.m.
