From July 10th to 14th the European Left, in cooperation with Transform!Europe, held its 3rd annual Summer University in Paris. 200 participants from 21 different countries attended the 4-day event and had the possibility to discuss current issues concerning the younger and older generations of today's Europe. Open debates about the precarious situation in Europe, the neoliberal EU agenda, the crisis of democracy, and the role of the EU in the world took place during the daily plenary sessions. Specific questions, such as the reform of the education system, migration from the East and South, the European social model, and the consequences of 'flexicurity' for the young were discussed at a total of 12 workshops. The event in Paris also provided for the possibility to talk about the development and proposals of the European Left in light of the 2009 European elections.
