The European Left at the Humanité Festival
From 12 to 14 September the European Left participated for the first time with an own stand at the Humanité Festival near Paris. During this amazing event, where around 500.000 people took part in political debates, cultural happenings and culinary tours, the EL promoted its current campaign against precarity with various debates.
Christine Reymann, member of the EL Executive Board, led a discussion about women’s rights and contraception. Christine Mendelsohn, also member of the EL Executive Board, Jürgen Klute (Die Linke) and Pawel Amborski (Young Socialists Poland) discussed about social rights and workers’ rights in east and west Europe. Another debate with Dr. Moufid (PCF) dealt with the tensions in the Middle East, between Iran and Syria, and reactions against the USA, Israel and the Union for the Mediterranean. The European Left and PCF also organised a discussion concerning the education system in Europe. The debates attracted broad interest and headed to intensive talks with the Festival’s visitors.
