After 20 years – an old dream again on the agenda

On the proposals of complete nuclear disarmament of President Barack Obama the Chairman of the European Left, Prof. Dr. Lothar Bisky states:

We welcome the proposals of President Obama. It is a good time to catch up a step that should have been made 20 years ago after the end of the Cold War, as Michael Gorbatchev then proposed.

Indeed, the danger of a nuclear war is very small at the moment. That is why the governments should walk the talk. That means also a change of the strategic concept of the NATO, abandoning the option of first use of nuclear weapons. Another step is the creation of a nuclear-free zone in Middle Europe. The English and French nuclear forces should be included into the negations as well as all nuclear forces in the world.

Let us make a dream become true, a dream dreamed by mankind since the first use of an atomic bomb: a world free of these terrible inhuman weapons.
