
The “Interregional Forum Alpe–Adria” of the European Left, member parties of the EL, and other organisations, groups and persons, who join the platform “8th of May”, will gather on May 8, 2010 in Klagenfurt/Celovec on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the liberation from National Socialism for a anti fascist rally with participants from Austria, Italy and Slovenia including guests from Germany and other European countries.
The demonstration will conclude with the exposure of a “ Seven Day Monument of the Ten Thousand “ – a memorial to the approximately 10 000 people – resistance fighters, Soviet prisoners of war, forced labourers, victims of euthanasia and Gestapo, Slovenians, Jews, Jehovas witnesses, Roma and Sinti, deserters, gay and lesbian persons, politically persecuted and others, who lost their lives in Carinthia through fascism .
One day earlier, on May 7, a conference titled “policy of commemoration – policy for today” will take place. The discussions and lectures will focus on national and international aspects of commemorative policy vis-a-vis the fundamental social crisis. Additionally further national and international forms of actions within a broad social spectrum will be discussed.
