Energy and Climate Policies
The EU policy on energy and climate is leading to a catastrophe. Worldwide the five biggest energy companies are richer than the banks today. Energy supply companies act in favour of their shareholders rather than serving the interests of the society and the environment. Democratic control over energy policy therefore is one of the key issues of European politics.
The existence of climate change is undeniable, and the battle for resources rages more fiercely than ever before. A complete change of the attitude towards energy consumption is needed. The "capitalistic way of live" and "sustainable development" have proven to be wholly incompatible. That is why the EL created the working group on Energy and Climate Policies, to show that there are alternatives, to fight against so-called "clean and safe atomic energy", and to point out the direct relations between energy, security and democracy.
