Education

The European Left Party is against the process of transforming higher education into a motor of the neo-liberal economic model, serving the interests of private business and the market. It supports the idea of a European university as a public and free service, able to guarantee the right of free access to knowledge and science to all European citizens. The EL promotes strong and efficient policies of resistance to the neo-liberal project, and contributes to the creation and consolidation of student, professor and citizen unions, movements and networks ready to join the Party's struggle against the commercialisation of higher education.

Indeed, it is through education that people become alert to the importance of justice, peace and social issues such as welfare distribution. Thus, the EU should defend the human right of education as a public good, free of the bondage of market forces. However, especially in implementing the Bologna Process, the EU does not. The EL therefore fights for an alternative education model, which allows every EU citizen to easily access education.
