Blackmail against the Greek government must stop immediately!
Statement of Pierre Laurent, EL President
The President of the Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, relayed the discourse of the conservatives of some European countries, including Germany, by re-putting into question the measures on the Greek debt announced on December 5. It is a political measure to punish the Greek government for having taken measures in favor of 1.6 million pensioners and for having suspended the rise of VAT in the northern islands and the Aegean.
I strongly condemn this new blackmail against the Greek government.
The conservative circles, in violation of all agreements, still do not accept that a government is trying to get out of the endless austerity imposed to them. It is a shame for Europe. This will only fuel the temptations of nationalist regression that we are seeing everywhere on the continent.
Enough of blackmail! Enough pressure! Enough of humiliation!
